A 55 year old woman presents to her GP with fatigue, increased thirst and frequent urination over the past three months. She has noticed recent weight gain. She has no previous history of diabetes. Her family history includes hypertension and type 2 diabetes in her father.
On examination, her blood pressure is 140/88 mmHg, heart rate is 82 bpm and regular. Her BMI is 31 kg/m².
